School-College Outreach Work

The tradition of outreach work by the Faculty in schools and colleges is a long-standing one. Inviting people into the institution to see the faculties and experience taster sessions has always been seen as an effective marketing tool but it is now increasingly used as attainment raising and pre-entry preparation for potential students. Staff also go out to schools and colleges in the region to talk about course opportunities and to give guidance on the application process. We have also delivered a number of master classes, either within the institution or at local centres.

All departments have their own regular contacts in regions and there is also a Faculty database giving details of feeder schools and colleges. In addition, Aimhigher Greater Manchester circulate a menu of provision across the seven boroughs and we often receive requests for bespoke sessions for particular schools or boroughs. These are coordinated at University level by Peter Riley who is the Aimigher coordinator for the university and at Faculty level by Liz Marr.
