You will combine study of the theories, methods and materials used in TEFL with a detailed analysis of language and an awareness of practical research methods. Core units include:
Language Teaching - This combines critical analysis of teaching methodologies with practical classroom experience. You will have a variety of classroom observation projects and will be involved in class teaching in different roles.
Language Learning - In this unit you will focus on the theories, principles and processes of second language acquisition. You will also complete an in-depth learning profile of a chosen student.
Structure of English - This covers phonology, lexis, grammar, discourse analysis, features of spoken and written English and social aspects of analysing English in use.
Research Methods - In this unit you explore techniques of data collection, recording, analysis and interpretation. You will also design and plan a research project on a topic of your choice.
