Responsibilities

I teach on a variety of English for Speakers of Other Languages courses, including pre-sessional and in-sessional English for Academic Purposes, IELTS preparation and teacher training.

Background

I have worked in English Language Teaching for over ten years, teaching in various contexts in the UK and Europe, including Further and Higher Education. While working at the British Council in Lisbon, I coordinated the offsite English for Specific Purposes provision, including the design and implementation of bespoke courses such as English for Engineers, English for Technical Theatre, English for the Hospitality Industry and English for Academic Purposes.

 

Qualifications

 

BA (Hons) English and Theatre Arts, Goldsmiths College, University of London

CELTA Certificate of English Language Teaching to Adults, West Cheshire College

PGCE Post-compulsory Education and Training (TEFL), Huddersfield University

MA in Applied Linguistics, University of Nottingham (due to be completed November 2012)

 

My research interests lie in the field of sociolinguistics and include intercultural communication,  academic literacies, pragmatic competence and critical discourse analysis. My MA dissertation examines the pragmatic function of humour in university seminars.
