EFL Tutor: Liaison for MA TEFL students

Responsibilities

I am currently the student support officer and liaison for the MA TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) and MA Applied Linguistics in the Department of Languages, Information and Communications and so closely involved in providing academic and non-academic support services to post-graduate EFL students. Throughout the academic year, I also run study skills workshops and one-to-one drop in sessions for these students to facilitate their Masters’ journey.

In addition to supporting Masters’ students, I teach on several EFL courses in the department including IELTS Plus, ELSIS (English Language Services for International Students), Pre-sessional English Language Course, SuMan (Teacher Training Course) and courses for special groups.

Coordinating and running the English Conversation Club for MMU’s international students is my other responsibility.

As a research assistant, I am also involved with the department’s research projects. Our most recent project was the Internationalisation Project for the UK Council for International Student Affairs (Higher Education Academy) which aimed at improving communication between staff and overseas students at Higher Education institutions in the UK.

Background

Prior to coming to Manchester Metropolitan University, I worked as an EFL teacher in the UK and Middle East where I mainly taught English for Specific Purposes (ESP), particularly Business English.

I have an MA in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (2009) from Manchester Metropolitan University and a BA in Translation Studies (2003) from the Azad University. I also hold a Trinity Certificate in TESOL as well as a certificate in Business English Correspondence, International Contracts and Negotiations.
