Why choose the BSc (Hons) Web Development at MMU?

What will I be studying?

In Year 1 you will study units covering: media, culture and society; media making; web information delivery; and information, systems and organisational life.

Year 2 is focused on standards-based web design and digital media production with units that address: web site design; creative digital media production; web languages; and project management.

In Year 3, study of web design is taken to an advanced level in an individual project and you will investigate contemporary issues and techniques in user-centred design.  The units cover: Design For All; digital asset management; and organisational strategy.

All courses in the Information and Communications Network have a common Year 1 offering you the opportunity to change degree at the end of your first year, as well as the opportunity to study abroad in Year 2.

Are there placements?

Although not a formal requirement of the degree, students are encouraged to seek placements, internships, work experience and volunteering opportunities to develop their professional and personal portfolio.  The course has links with IT departments and information units in all types of organisations, including the BBC, Granada TV, law firms, schools, universities, NHS and public authorities in the UK and abroad.

The rapidly changing digital media and creative industries offer career opportunities in an extremely wide range of industry sectors including web design, media development, computing and system management, teaching, information management, IT consultancy, and as managers and administrators in a wide variety of public and private organisations.  Previous graduates have been employed by new media companies across the North West and nationally.
