Why choose the BSc (Hons) Information and Communications at MMU?

  • Focuses on the role played by computer systems, fixed and mobile communications networks and other digital technologies in organisational and social change.
  • Introduction to a very wide range of new and exciting information delivery technologies including blogs, wikis, social networking and other web 2.0 delivery platforms.
  • The Department is a HEFCE recognised Centre of Excellence for Teaching and Learning (CETL) as part of the LearnHigher CETL.

What will I be studying?

In Year 1 you will study units covering: media, culture and society; media making; web information delivery; and information, systems and organisational life.

 Year 2 has mandatory units in media, texts and ethics; and project management; and you choose from unit options including: creative digital media production; web site design; and web languages.

In Year 3, studies are centred on: technology, audiences and globalisation; organisational strategy; and digital asset management.  You will investigate contemporary issues in information and communications at an advanced level in an individual project.

 All courses in the Information and Communications Network have a common Year 1 offering you the opportunity to change degree at the end of your first year, as well as the opportunity to study abroad in Year 2.

Are there placements?

Placements have been arranged in information management units or IT departments in all types of organisations and have included the BBC, Granada TV, law firms, advertising agencies, and public authorities in the UK and abroad.
