Why choose the BSc (Hons) Digital Media and Communications at MMU?

  • Uses selected digital media to provide both technical and theoretical treatments of media content production.
  • Develops digital media production and project management skills.
  • You will be introduced to a very wide range of new and exciting information delivery technologies, including blogs, wikis, social networking and other web 2.0 delivery platforms.
  • The Department is a HEFCE recognised Centre of Excellence for Teaching and Learning (CETL) in information literacy.

What will I be studying?

In Year 1 you will study units covering: media, culture and society; media making; web information delivery; and information, systems and organisational life.

Year 2 is focused on digital media production and communications and media theory with units that address: creative digital media production; web site design; media, texts and ethics; and project management.

In Year 3, study of digital media production is taken to an advanced level in an individual project and you will investigate contemporary issues in media and communications. The units cover: technology, audiences and globalisation; Design For All; and organisational strategy.

All courses in the Information and Communications Network have a common Year 1 offering you the opportunity to change degree at the end of your first year, as well as the opportunity to study abroad in Year 2.

 

Are there placements?

Although not a formal requirement of the degree, students are encouraged to seek placements, internships, work experience and volunteering opportunities to develop their professional and personal portfolio. The course has links with IT departments and information units in all types of organisations, including the BBC, Granada TV, law firms, schools, universities, NHS and public authorities in the UK and abroad.
