You will undertake core units in the introduction to local and regional history as well as two units on research methods (one primarily on sources, the other on historiography). These research methods units will prepare you to research and write a dissertation of your choice.
In addition you will choose two options from a selection of specialist courses in aspects of the region's history. These may include:
Print Culture and Public Opinion in Early Modern England, 1500-1750;
Landscape and History in the 19th and 20th Centuries;
Viewing the World Differently: Working with archive film;
Northern England: Place, Identity and Culture in Northern England;
Youth in the North West, 1870s-1970s;
Please note that units may change subject to availability.
Successful completion of this course may enhance employment prospects in teaching, museums and archives. Many students also pursue the qualification for personal satisfaction rather than career reasons. Applications are welcomed from returners to education.
