Allwrite! 2006 Celebration Event (Thursday, 22nd November, 2006)
The ACWE annual ‘All Write!’ celebration and presentation event took place in the Geoffrey Manton building, Oxford Road, on the afternoon of Wednesday, 22nd November and was attended by over 200 pupils, teachers and parents. Competition winners were presented with copies of the ‘All Write! 2006’ anthology by writers including Melvin Burgess, Sherry Ashworth and Mandy Coe and courtesy of Arts Council England, North West, who again funded the competition.
This event marked the end of the English Department’s 2006 outreach programme which has hosted a number of reading and writing events that fed into the ‘All Write! 2006’ creative writing competition.
The competition was open to anyone aged 14-16 or 16-19 and we received over 400 entries from over 40 schools across the North West of England this year.
Competition winners had their work printed in the All Write! 2006 anthology and were also invited to attend a ‘Performing Literature’ workshop day at MMU on November 3rd. During the event many of the ‘All Write! 2006’ authors entertained and sometimes moved the audience with readings from their work and we’d like to thank and congratulations those who were brave enough to do this. We also heard accounts of the various workshops that had taken place throughout the year – quite a few people were embarrassed by seeing themselves on the big screen in short filmic accounts of the Performing Literature day and the 24:7 Theatre Festival workshop that was held in July.
